Childcare costs are deducted direct from the salary before tax and NNI are deducted.

If childcare is purchased directly by an employer on behalf of an employee who in turn agrees to give up that sum of money in their salary this is called salary sacrifice. In doing this the employee benefits because the cost of the childcare is taken from the salary before tax and NNI are deducted, thus meaning that the cost of the childcare is net of income tax and NNI.
